Zero Hunger
Wasting food become a daily habit of
people nowadays especially in the city. When we visit the restaurant, we can
see people around us leaving the table with leftovers on the dish. Even we
ourselves do the same. We buy some drinks or food just because are intrigued of
the packaging or the advertisement then throw it away when we do not like the
taste. It is a terrible fact.
According to Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) data, every year 1.6 billion tons of food are wasted which
1.3 billion tons of it can actually still be consumed. FAO reported in The
State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World: Safeguarding Against
Economic Slowdowns and Downturns, more than 820 million people live
undernourished.
The United Nations launched the Zero Hunger campaign, which is expected to succeed in 2030. this campaign is not only to ends hunger but also ensures access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year around.
This campaign will become useless if we do nothing towards this situation. So what should we do?
Take what you need, eat what you take. Don't waste the food.
Before eating it's better to determine how much capacity our stomach has so we can pick up food as needed. When we are eating out and we are full, we can ask to have our food wrapped so we can eat it again at home. And if we have excess food, do not hesitate to share with others in need.
Furthermore, Allah SWT said in the Qur'anil Kariim,
"And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully. Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has satan been to his Lord ungrateful." (Al-Isra': 26-27)
